Bakeries and Pastry shops

There are many bakeries (panificio in Italian) in Rome, bread being for centuries a central food of Roman life. It is the forno (ovens in English) that traditionally cook it. This name is not systematic today.
There is a wide variety of breads (even in supermarkets), often in the form of balls and quality, including breads with cereals, figs, nuts, sometimes sourdough with slow fermentation.
In addition, the forno, often also prepare with their dough pizzas cut, especially marinara (red pizza), and pizza bianca (white pizza) and side cookies classic crostate (tarts).
In the Christmas season, they often prepare the popular brioche with success for dried reasons and/or candied fruits, the panetone.

Pastries (pasticceria in Italian) are sometimes associated with a bakery.
