Still within the Aurelian Walls, it runs along the northern slope of the Caelian Hill, passes in front of the notable <strong>San Clemente Basilica<\/strong>, the major hospitals, and then reaches Rome's cathedral, the <strong>Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran<\/strong> with the <strong>Scala Sancta<\/strong>.\r\nNearby, the Porta Asinaria crosses the Aurelian Walls enclosing the district.\r\nTo the north of Via di San Giovanni rises the Esquiline Hill, with the Aurelian Walls reaching the <strong>Porta Maggiore<\/strong>, and on the other side, the <strong>Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II<\/strong>.
