    The Capitoline Museums occupy the New Palace (Palazzo Nuovo) and the Palace of the Conservatives (Palazzo dei Conservatori).The sculpture collection began in the 15th century.
    This is one of the most important museums of Rome, especially for its collection of ancient works.

    In 1734 Clement XII opened the first public museum in the world at the Palazzo Nuovo.The art gallery of the Palazzo dei Conservatori was inaugurated in 1749.

    Palazzo Nuovo preserved Greek and Roman sculptures, including busts such as in the philosophers’s hall or in the hall of the emperors on the 1st floor.

    The Palace of the Conservatives held the magistrates of the city in the Middle Ages. Today the ground floor is the seat of the municipality of Rome.Its rooms are decorated with colorful frescoes, holding masterpieces like the Medusa by Bernini and the colossal statue of Constantine.

    Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 to 19:30 in general (close of entries 18:30).
    Open on 24th and 31st of December from 9:30 am to 14:00
    Closed on Mondays. Closed 1st January, 1st May and 25th December.
    Price (entrance to the museum and the current exhibition until 11.27.2016): Full € 15, reduced € 13
    Audioguide Price: 6 €, children 4 € (recommended age: from 6 to 12 years).
