Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is a wide avenue crossing the historic heart of Rome. To the south of this street and Piazza Navona stretches, from west to east, one of the most interesting neighborhoods of the city, encompassing the entire Rione Regola. It is traversed by the long Via Giulia, which connects the southern part of Rione Ponte in the west to Rione Sant’Angelo in the east, where the Ghetto, Largo di Torre Argentina, and, in the middle of the river, the Tiber Island are located.
At the center of this area rich in palaces and churches, it is pleasant to sit on a terrace of the lively Campo de’ Fiori Square, or to discover a few steps away the more austere Piazza Farnese. The latter is distinguished by its two fountains made from ancient bathtubs and, above all, by the majestic Palazzo Farnese, seat of the French Embassy.
